Oberhalb der Inschrift „Alte Post“ sehen Sie über der kleinen Doppelarkade das Baujahr dieses Hauses: 1565. In den ersten Jahrhunderten wechselten hier oft die Besitzer. Bevor das Haus aber von der Post genutzt wurde, befand sich in diesem Gebäude seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts das Rathaus.
Erst 1888, als das Rathaus, das Sie am Beginn des Rundgangs gesehen haben, gebaut wurde, zog hier das Postamt ein. Bis 1965 blieb es hier.
Danach zog es in das neue Verwaltungsgebäude der Post- und Telegraphenanstalt an der Umfahrungsstraße. Bis 1980 fand hier die Musikschule eine Heimat, bis es nach Fertigstellung des Bundesschulzentrums in das ehemalige MUPÄD am Schulplatz zog.
Nach gründlicher Renovierung beherbergt die "Alte Post" seither Magistratsabteilungen für Meldewesen, Staatsbürgerschaft, Landwirtschaft, Personalamt sowie den Trauungssaal.
