Der Pongauer Dom mit gotischem Holzbildwerk ist zugleich die Pfarrkirche von Sankt Johann und gilt als das Wahrzeichen der Stadt. 924 wurde er erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Nach dem Marktbrand von 1855 wurde die Kirche von Grund auf neu gebaut (1855 -1861). Die neugotischen Altäre beherbergen etliche spätgotische Figuren.

Die mächtige Lage über dem Salzachtal sowie der majestätische Innenraum machen den Bau zu einem der Hauptwerke der kirchlichen Architektur.
