Die Kirche ist eine Gründung des Stiftes St. Lambrecht, das sie kurz nach 1200 erbauen ließ. Sie ist nach wie vor dem Stift inkorporiert. Das Langhaus ist im Kern ein romanischer Bau der barockisiert wurde und ein Flachtonnengewölbe mit einem einfachen Stuckfeld erhielt. Im Norden schließt sich ein schmales Seitenschiff mit einer Flachdecke an. Der Chor ist um drei Stufen höher und hat ein frühgotisches Kreuzrippengewölbe. Als Kirchenpatron und Hauptfigur des Hochaltars schwebt der hl. Thomas in Wolken (geschnitzt wieder von Balthasar Prandtstätter um 1737). Im rechten Seitenalter befindet sich eine Pietà aus dem frühen 15. Jahrhundert, die ursprünglich aus St. Lambrecht stammt. Die Kirche prägt ein mächtiger Westturm mit einer barocken Zwiebelhaube und Laterne (1684).
