Die Kirche Nostra Signora di Montallegro

Die 1558 erbaute Kirche Nostra Signora di Montallegro liegt auf 612 m Höhe oberhalb von Rappalo an der ligurischen Mittelmeerküste.

Die Kirche wurde auf den Ruinen einer alten Kirche gebaut, die den Heiligen Gervasio und Protasio gewidmet war. Die Kirche wurde vom Architekten Tommasino Lagomaggiore gestaltet und konnte ab 1559 genutzt werden. Zwischen 1599 und 1699 gab es eine komplette Neugestaltung. In den folgenden Jahrhunderten gab es immer wieder Restaurationen und neue Elemente wie den Glockenturm im Jahr 1757 zur 200-Jahr-Feier oder neue Treppen im Jahr 1896. Zwischen 1914 und 1920 gab es einige Erweiterungen wie eine neue Kuppel und im Jahr 1925 wurde das Gotteshaus zu einer Basilica minor ernannt. Nach der Zerstörung durch Bombenangriffe im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Kirche repariert und ist seit 1947 wieder zugänglich, seit 2010 sogar mit einem Lift.
