Im Jahr 1522 wurde die Kirche in Cösitz erbaut. Vorher gab es im Ort eine kleine Kapelle, die möglicherweise die um 1300 gegossene Glocke, welche noch heute im Kirchturm hängt, bereits besaß.
Das unter Denkmalschutz stehende Gebäude besitzt einen dreiseitigen Chorabschluss mit gerader Putzdecke und einen im Jahr 1882 neu erbauten quadratischen Turm.
Neun wertvolle Grabsteine sowie ein gepflegter Friedhof – u.a. mit Gräbern der ortsansässigen Adelsfamilie – werden durch einen etwa 2 Millionen Jahre alten Findling aus Skandinavien, der mit der letzten Eiszeit nach Cösitz kam, zur Besonderheit.
