Prvá významnejšia jaskyniarska expedícia sa uskutočnila v auguste 1939, avšak vchody do priepastí boli známe už od nepamäti. Priepasť je vytvorená v strednotriasových gutensteinských vápencoch bielovážskej série chočského príkrovu. Celková hĺbka priepasti dosahuje 125 m. Na stenách vstupnej 89 m hlbokej priepasti sa nachádzajú ľadové náteky rôznej hrúbky od niekoľkých centimetrov po max. 15 až 20 cm. Z dna priepasti pokrytého ľadovou triešťou a nahádzanými kusmi dreva vystupuje ľadový kužeľ. Má elipsovitý prierez asymetrického tvaru rozmerov približne 9 x 6 m, situovaný pod spodným otvorom, čo priamo súvisí s rastom jeho ľadovej hmoty. Ľadový kužeľ má sklon miestami až 400 a je pokrytý firnom a ľadom. K stene priepasti však neprilieha, nachádza sa tu voľný priestor, ktorý sa smerom nadol postupne rozširuje.
