Na svete existujú len tri sprístupnené aragonitové jaskyne. Jedna v Mexiku, druhá v Argentíne a na Slovensku najkrajšia z nich, Ochtinská aragonitová jaskyňa. V jaskyni sa zistili tri generácie aragonitu. Vek prvej sa odhaduje až na neuveriteľných 138 000 rokov!
Objavená bola náhodne pri razení geologickej prieskumnej štôlne v roku 1954. Bohatosťou a rôznorodosťou foriem aragonitovej výplne sa radí medzi najhodnotnejšie aragonitové jaskyne na svete, vďaka čomu bola v roku 1995 zapísaná do zoznamu svetového prírodného dedičstva UNESCO.
