The cathedral on the central Alexander Nevsky Square is considered a landmark of Sofia.
The cathedral was built at the end of the 19th century as a memorial to Tsar Alexander II. and the Russian soldiers who died liberating Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire.
>Inside the cathedral there are five naves, richly decorated with gold, mosaics and stained glass, among other things. There is an icon museum in the crypt.
