Kanalski most, ki je bil sprva lesen, je bil zgrajen leta 1580. Skozi zgodovino je bil večkrat podrt in obnovljen. Je nedvomno razpoznavni znak Kanala in priljubljena znamenitost, ki pritegne številne umetnike in obiskovalce. Prvič so ga leta 1805 uničili Francozi, ki so prodirali proti Avstriji. Most je bil nato obnovljen in potem ponovno porušen po odhodu Francozov. S pomočjo Valentina Staniča (duhovnika, alpinista, zdravilca, tiskarja in ustanovitelja šole na Banjšicah) je bil ponovno obnovljen v letu 1816. Ponovno je o usodi mostu odločala vojna: razstrelili so ga 25. maja 1915. Današnjo podobo je dobil po prenovi leta 1920. Druga svetovna vojna mu je prizanesla. Vsako leto v avgustu se na tem mestu odvija tradicionalna prireditev Skoki z mosta.
