Der Herbisweiher ist ein künstlich angelegtes Gewässer. Seit dem 16. Jahrhundert diente er der Fischzucht. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde er trockengelegt, um die Fläche land- und forstwirtschaftlich zu nutzen. Seit seiner Renaturierung im Jahr 2003 hat er sich zu einem artenreichen Feuchtgebiet entwickelt. Eine spezielle Vorrichtung, der „Mönch”, reguliert den Wasserspiegel.
