The Schweinsfelsen is part of countless colorful sandstone rocks in the Palatinate Forest. The Nature Park circular path 26 and the Climate and Nature Experience Trail, starting from the village of Silz, lead directly past the rock.
Colorful sandstone shapes the landscape in the Palatinate Forest. About 50 million years ago, the layers of colorful sandstone became visible again due to tectonic movements in the area. Their present shape was created by erosion, which often also contributed to the naming.
Other interesting rocks nearby include the Kellerfelsen, the Rötzenfelsen, and the Krimhildenstein.
