Wolfsberg: Schmirgerhaus
In diesem Haus wohnte die Wolfsberger Autorin Gertrud Gabriela Schmirger. Sie wurde bekannt durch historische Romane und Jugendbücher. Ihr Leben lang veröffentlichte sie unter dem männlichen Pseudonym Gerhart Ellert.
Als einziges Kind des Primararztes Camillo Schmirger und seiner Gattin Gabrielle wuchs sie weltoffen auf. Sie genoss Heimunterricht und wurde dann im Benediktinerstift St. Paul von begnadeten Professoren privat unterrichtet. Gertrud Schmirger maturierte mit Auszeichnung. An den Universitäten Graz und Wien erweiterte sie ihr Allgemeinwissen. Der Tod des Vaters beendete ihre sorglose Zeit. Doch dann baute sie mit ihrer Mutter ein Obstgut und eine Baumschule auf. So konnten sie in den Wintermonaten reisen.
Gertrud Schmirger verfasste zahlreiche historische Werke über Persönlichkeiten wie Paulus aus Tarsos, Attila oder Mohammed und viele mehr. Höchst erfolgreich waren ihre Jugendbücher wie „Der Goldschatz“, „Herzog Tassilos Troßbub“ oder „Lösegeld für Dorothy“. Gertrud Schmirger wurde mit dem österreichischen Staatspreis für Jugendliteratur, dem Ehrenring der Heimatstadt und einem Professorinnentitel geehrt. 1975 starb sie mit 75 Jahren.
