Wolfsberg: Lobisserfresken
Switbert Lobisser war Maler, Graphiker und Benediktinermönch. Er wurde 1878 im Pfarrhaus Tiffen geboren und starb 1943 in Klagenfurt. Als junger Mann trat er ins Kloster St. Paul ein und wurde zum Priester geweiht. Er studierte an der Kunstakademie in Wien und arbeitete später als Lehrer. Mit über 50 Jahren trat er aus der Kirche aus, nachdem er sich in eine Frau verliebte.
Lobisser näherte sich ab 1933 der NS-Ideologie an. Seine Formensprache und Motive wurden für die Nazi-Propaganda verwendet. Hochrangige Nationalsozialisten kauften seine Werke. In seinen Fresken stellte er idealisierte Arbeiter und Bauern dar, die das deutsch-nationale Gedankengut ausdrücken sollten.
Er gestaltete auch in der Stiftskirche von Wolfsberg einige Fresken. Die Fresken, die er im Kärntner Landhaus gemalt hat, verherrlichen den Anschluss Österreichs an Nazideutschland und wurden deshalb von dort abgenommen. Sie werden heute im Museum aufbewahrt.
In der Johann Offner-Straße 26 ist noch heute sein Freskenzyklus der vier Jahreszeiten zu sehen
