La tour Sainte-Marthe

It is part of the second enclosure of the fortifications of the medieval city, set up at the end of the XIII° and throughout the XIV° century. Built and transformed in several stages, it was again the object of redevelopment in the 16th and 17th centuries. It would seem to have been built to ensure the particular defense of the castle. It was part of the property occupied by the Count of Salm Reifferscheidt, Governor General of Alsace, in the early days of the Thirty Years' War. Sold in 1833 by the city to Count François de Brauer, it owes its current appearance to the work carried out by this family in the 19th century, when it was even used as a home In the 20th century, it remained a private and preserved domain before its acquisition by the city of Rosheim in 1968 and the complete redevelopment of the large park of the Sainte-Marthe property in 1971-1972. Classified as a historical monument in 1920 and 1930, it was completely restored by the city of Rosheim in 1993-1994.
