The Pilgrimage Route of Saint Francis in Italy leads from Florence to Rome. It is usually walked in two sections. The first section goes from Florence to Assisi, the second from Assisi to Rome. At the end of September 2025, my brother Horst and I walked the second section from Assisi to Rome in 12 stages. If you want to walk the pilgrimage route, you should be aware that it is located in the mountains of Tuscany and Umbria. Among other things, you will experience long stages with many steep ascents and descents, sometimes up to 1000 meters of elevation gain, and all of that with a heavy backpack. Therefore, it is advisable to prepare well physically and organizationally. Carefully review the GPS data of the stages and complement it with accommodation information.
