The Francis route leads from Sant'Ellero near Florence through Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio via Assisi to Rome.
One of the most beautiful Italian pilgrimage routes is the Francis route from Sant'Ellero via Assisi to Rome. The route mainly runs on paths, field and forest roads, as well as little trafficked roads through a varied landscape. Over the Tuscan and Umbrian Apennines, the hilly landscape of Umbria and Lazio, numerous places and sites are passed along the way where Saint Francis lived and worked. Birth and death place Assisi, Chiusi della Verna where he received the stigmata, and monasteries as well as churches, hermitages and places of prayer of the saint are located in the midst of nature. In just under a month, wonderful natural landscapes in three regions of Italy are hiked and important spiritual sites from the life of Francis of Assisi are passed. Time and again there are opportunities to pause, enjoy, and lose yourself in your thoughts.
