26.5 km

The third section of the Baden Way of St. James from Gaggenau to Steinbach. A technically very pleasant and scenically great stage to walk with only a few slightly more demanding climbs. The highest point of this tour with approx. 400 m elevation gain is already reached in the first third of the route. Since the route passes by the Merkur valley station, there is the possibility to take the rack railway there to Baden-Baden's local mountain to enjoy a wonderful view from over 660 m above sea level over BAD and the Black Forest mountains. Due to this additional time effort, it is therefore advisable to conclude the tour in BAD. Longer descent to Lichtental Abbey, then a section along the Lichtentaler Allee by the Oos river, along the Fremersberg and towards the end of the tour reaching the magnificent Baden-Baden Rebland with grand views from this magnificent wine-growing region. The end of the actual tour with a detour to BAD-Steinbach with the Jakobuskirche (St. James Church).

Baden Way of St. James Waldprechtsweier-Gaggenau
Difficulty
moderate

3:35 h

240 m
Along the edge path from Waldprechtsweier to Gaggenau, relatively low elevation differences, very easy to walk, relaxing, partly with a nice view from the edge path into the Rhine plain as well as into the front Murg valley.
Overall a fairly easy tour to walk.
Due to the relatively low elevation differences and the well-walkable paths in the first two stages Ettlingen-Waldprechtsweier and this stage, it is also possible to combine these two partial stages into one stage of about 27 km.
There are practically no dining options on this section until the destination Gaggenau. No villages are directly crossed on the tour itself.
Information regarding places and accommodations can be found at:
In Gaggenau itself, there are practically no overnight accommodations.
However, Gaggenau is excellently connected to the regional S-Bahn network as well as the bus network of the Karlsruhe Transport Association (kvv.de). Thus, surrounding towns regarding accommodations can be reached in a short time:
Especially the towns of Kuppenheim and Gernsbach as well as Rastatt.

The third section of the Badischer Jakobsweg from Gaggenau to Steinbach. A technically very pleasant and scenically great stage with only a few somewhat more challenging climbs.
