Pilgrim trails in Leipzig

The “Lutherweg in Saxony” leads as a spiritual circular hiking route through the scenic region.

The 460-kilometer Ecumenical Pilgrimage Trail winds through central Germany, combining nature, spirituality, and encounters.

This stage offers the hiker, in addition to the sights of the city of Leipzig, peaceful walking paths through river floodplains, forest areas, and small villages. Eilenburg, with its mountain church and the castle hill located in the Mulde river floodplain landscape, is considered a Mulde city with a green heart.

The Leipzig New Lake District, a landscape formed from former open-cast mining with lakes, forests, and river floodplains, is well known far beyond the borders of Saxony and a popular holiday destination. The floodplain forests surrounding the city of Leipzig, with their rare plant and animal species, are also a rarity. On this route, you combine all this with the flair of the big city and the places of the Reformation, such as the St. Thomas Church, Pleißenburg, and Auerbach's Cellar.

Der Ökumenische Pilgerweg führt als Teilabschnitt des Jakobswegs und der alten Via Regia von der polnischen Grenze bei Görlitz durch Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt und Thüringen bis nach Vacha an der Werra. Hier hat der Pilger Anschluss an Jakobswege durch Hessen.
