VOGTLAND POTATO CULTURE

Germans love the potato, and in Vogtland, too, there is no getting around the humble "spud." Documents from 1647 confirm that potatoes were being cultivated on a field scale in this region at a very early date—more than a full century before the famous "Potato Edict" issued by the Prussian King Frederick the Great. In a sense, Vogtland was the "innovation hub" for potato cultivation in Germany.
Ever since, these tasty tubers have enriched our menus. Today, a wide range of offerings—from potato buffets and the "Knollensteig" festival to the potato educational trail—bears witness to the locals' deep bond with the potato. Pair this with a freshly tapped local beer, and you have the perfect recipe for a delightful time. Come and enjoy the region's characteristic Vogtland hospitality.
