From the summit to the fairy tale land: The Säuling crossing to the royal castle This demanding mountain tour begins in the Tyrolean Außerfern and immediately tackles the prominent summit of Säuling (2,047 m). The ascent requires surefootedness, a head for heights, and very good fitness. After the reward at the summit with a far-reaching Alpine panorama which also includes the royal castles, the route leads downhill into the Bavarian region of Schwangau. Via the summer path you reach the iconic viewpoints of Neuschwanstein Castle. Stop at the Marienbrücke to capture the most famous view of Ludwig’s dream castle before the tour concludes in the historic town of Füssen. This route is a perfect combination of alpine mountain experience and royal cultural history.
