Welcome to the Kemptner Hütte!
The Kemptner Hütte is perched high above the Sperrbachtobel at 1,844 m in the Allgäu Alps. Built in 1891, this mountain hut serves as a hub for hikers and mountaineers. Not only does the popular E5 long-distance hiking trail to Merano begin there, but so does the Steinbock Tour along the main ridge of the Allgäu Alps. Between 2020 and 2022, the hut underwent extensive renovation and remodeling.
The Kemptner Hut is a Category I mountain hut of the German Alpine Club. The hut is situated in an exposed location at 1,846 m in the Allgäu High Alps Nature Reserve and is accessible only on foot. The hut is not a luxury hotel, but rather, in keeping with tradition, a deliberately simple mountaineering lodge. Here you have the opportunity to experience the simple mountain life and leave behind not only the stress but also the luxuries of valley life. True to the motto: The hut has everything you need, and what it doesn’t have, you don’t need anyway. The Kemptner Hütte relies on a very complex supply and waste disposal system. Please use resources such as water and energy sparingly and help ensure, through your behavior, that this mountain hut—which has been in operation for over 130 years—can continue to exist.
Note on bed bug prevention:
The Kemptner Hut is bed bug-free, and we want to keep it that way! Where many people sleep, uninvited guests sometimes appear. They are not harmful to your health, nor do they have anything to do with the cleanliness of the hut. Bed bugs are usually carried in backpacks or on clothing. Since bed bugs are a nuisance, we ask all guests to follow these preventive hygiene guidelines:
- Do not place your backpack on the mattresses or empty its contents
- Keep personal items and textiles in contact with the mattresses as little as possible
- Keep backpacks closed and stored as far away from your sleeping area as possible, and hang them up if possible
- Hang clothing on hooks
- Store worn clothing in plastic bags sealed as tightly as possible
Please make sure you do not bring bed bugs from another lodging to our facility. We therefore recommend that you clean your hiking sleeping bag regularly to prevent unintentional transmission.
Additional Information:
Please note that, unfortunately, overnight stays with dogs are not permitted at the Rappensee Hut.
