Die Hörnlealm liegt auf 1.431 Metern in den Ammergauer Alpen zwischen Vorderem und Hinteren Hörnle. Die Alm ist für Wanderer gut zu erreichen, da sie nur etwa 20 Gehminuten in geringer Steigung von der Bergstation der Hörnlebahn entfernt liegt.
Die Gaststätte bietet typische Speisen und Getränke einer Alm mit Verpflegung. Besondere Highlights sind dabei aber der selbst hergestellte Hüttenkäse, Buttermilch und ein täglich selbst gebackener Kuchen. Von der Bergstation der Hörnle Schwebebahn ist die Alm in 20 Min zu erreichen, von der Kappelkirche in Unterammergau sind es 1,5 Std.
Almwirtschaft und Artenvielfalt
Ursprünglich wäre das Hörnle bewaldet gewesen, doch die traditionelle Almwirtschaft hält den Berg offen und die extensive Bewirtschaftung der Lichtweiden durch die Almbauern und Landwirte schafft die Grundlage für eine große und einzigartige Artenvielfalt an seltenen Tier- und Pflanzenarten, wie z.B. die Orchideenart Manns-Knabenkraut.
Rücksicht auf Wildtiere
Winter - Notzeit für Tiere! Die Hänge am Hörnle laden bei entsprechender Schneelage zum Rodeln oder Skitourengehen ein. Doch gerade im Winter sollte man sich als Wanderer, Schneeschuhwanderer, Langläufer oder Skifahrer möglichst rücksichtsvoll verhalten, um Wildtiere wie das Rotwild so wenig wie möglich zu stören.
Das Rotwild ist eigentlich eine Offenlandart. Die oft in Rudeln lebenden Tiere reagieren sehr empfindlich auf Störungen durch den Menschen. Tagsüber halten sie sich deshalb meist gut versteckt in den Bergwäldern auf. Ihre Hauptnahrung besteht aus Gräsern und Kräutern, die sie auf den angrenzenden Wiesen und Weiden finden. Hält die Beunruhigung durch den Menschen auch in der Dämmerung und nachts an, bleiben die Tiere länger im Wald und richten dort Schäden an der Waldverjüngung an. Bleibe deshalb auf den markierten Wegen, meide die Dämmerung und führe deinen Hund an der Leine.
Zum Schutz der Wildtiere gibt es im Gipfelbereich des Mittleren und Hinteren Hörnles sowie am Stierkopf und Rißberg eine Dämmerungsruhezone. Bitte respektiere diese Zonen, um den Tieren ihre Ruhe zu lassen.
Wenn du deinen Aufstieg von Unterammergau planst, beachte auch die Winterschutzgebiete unterhalb des Gipfels. Kleiner Tipp: Aktiviere den Kartenlayer "Hinweise und Sperrungen", um die Schutzgebiete zu sehen und zu erfahren, was es mit diesen auf sich hat.

Öffnungszeiten:
Die Hörnle-Alm ist zur Weidezeit ab Anfang Juni bis Anfang Oktober geöffnet. Im Herbst hängt die Öffnungszeit etwas vom Wetter ab. Ruhetage gibt es in dieser Zeit nicht.
