A warm welcome to the Hochjoch Hospice!
The Hochjoch Hospice is located on one of the most historically significant Alpine passes. Tourism development in the area began in the second half of the 19th century. The first building was constructed on the opposite side of the valley. By the end of World War I, this hut was no longer usable due to avalanches and looting. The Mark Brandenburg section at the time therefore built a replacement structure in the 1920s.
Due to its German nationalist and ethno-nationalist orientation, the Mark Brandenburg section was banned after World War II, and the hut was subsequently transferred to the Berlin section. Even today, the hut retains its original appearance, particularly in the dining room, and is therefore set to be designated a historic landmark. The lodge’s restrooms were renovated between 2013 and 2015. Several years earlier, the lodge’s heating system had already been upgraded, allowing it to serve as a base along the Venter Runde trail even during the ski touring season from March through early May.
The hut’s namesake is the Guslarspitze; otherwise, it serves as an important stopover on the way to the Brandenburger Haus or, via the Bella Vista, as an alternative route along the E5 toward Italy.
