Cabin on the way to Garn Paradiso
The Federico Chabod Mountain Hut is located at the foot of the northwestern face of Mount Gran Paradiso, in the heart of the park of the same name. It is open in the spring through mid-May and from mid-June through mid-September for classic mountaineering and hiking.
Comfortable and well-organized, it offers 85 beds in the summer and is equipped with showers and restrooms. The mountain hut serves as the starting point for the “Normal Route” up Gran Paradiso and offers a breathtaking view of the entire massif. It is connected to the Vittorio Emanuele mountain hut by a beautiful balcony.
The Federico Chabod Mountain Hut is accessible in two and a half hours from the valley floor via a comfortable mule trail: the route passes through a larch forest and then across wide, flower-filled slopes where it’s quite easy to spot wildlife.
Near the mountain hut, there is a small climbing area.
In October 2001, the mountain hut received the UNI EN ISO 14001 environmental certification from Certiquality.

Directions
From the parking lot in Pravieux (1,834 meters), cross the bridge over the Savara and walk to the mountain pasture of the same name. A narrow mule trail begins here. After passing through the larch forest, you’ll reach the Lavassey alpine pasture (2,194 meters, about 50 minutes). Here you’ll find a fork in the trail: take the right fork. The trail climbs gently over the Côte Savolère and up to the mountain hut (about 1 hour and 40 minutes).
