The address of the Bärenmoosalpe speaks volumes—after all, the alpine hut is located at “Himmelreich 1.”
The heavenly name alone hints that hikers and cyclists can look forward to an idyllic spot here in the Allgäu Mountains. The Bärenmoosalpe is open from June through mid-September. Throughout the alpine summer, the alpine herdsman not only serves guests but also tends to the young cattle roaming freely. The “Schumpen”—as the Allgäu locals call the young Brown Swiss cattle—can be found all around the Bärenmoosalpe. To avoid disturbing the heavenly atmosphere, a certain amount of respect for the Schumpen is advised.
