Hiking in Markt Einersheim

A scenic hike leads from Markt Einersheim first out to the vineyards on Sonnenberg, then continues to Schlossberg with the Speckfeld ruin, and climbs up to Schwanberg along the Celtic Trail. Finally, it goes to Wiesenbronn, the red wine island in Steigerwald.

The 12.9-kilometer-long TraumRunde Iphofen leads through the unique cultural heritage of Mittelwald as well as wonderful meadows and vineyards, offering magnificent views and sights of a picturesque wine landscape. The starting point is the parking lot at the Ringsbühl recreational area. There are ample parking spaces as well as a toilet available from April to October.

The approximately 200 km long long-distance hiking route follows the footsteps of the Celts in ten stages through Franconia and southern Thuringia.

We started the tour from Birklingen since the Augustiner in Birklingen was closed that day. You can stop for a break in Iphofen. Well-maintained paths, great landscape, and views of the Kitzinger Land. From Birklingen, head towards the ruins of Speckfeld. The path goes through the forest where wild garlic grows. Through the vineyards to Iphofen with its historic city wall. On the way back, you pass a Kneipp basin with fitness equipment. Cross the street from Iphofen to Birklingen at the playground. The last part of the route leads back through the forest and across meadows. Passing the Bildereiche and a nature trail, it returns to Birklingen. Good physical condition and sturdy footwear are recommended. Possibility to stop for a break in Iphofen or on weekends in Birklingen.

The Mönchsondheim Fortified Church Museum is an open-air museum where the fortified church and the village’s associated buildings still stand on their original sites. The museum was founded in 1981 and offers visitors a glimpse into the past and present daily life of a village in Mainfranken. After our short walk, it’s worth visiting the museum, which often hosts events in the summer.> From the street “An der Kirchenburg” in Mönchsondheim 01, we head down to the main street and turn left. At Bachgasse, we then follow the M1 and M2 signs to the right. A paved path with a great view takes us past fields and along the upper reaches of the Kirchbach toward Hellmitzheim. On the outskirts of Hellmitzheim 02, just before the town sign, we keep to the right on the M1 and a paved road. It soon turns into a dirt road and leads us down to a fork. Here we keep to the right; after a few minutes, we turn left and hike down the path between fields and meadows. At the bottom, we come to the Zettelbach stream and, after passing the trees, keep to the right at a small gravel section. We now stroll along a meadow path until we reach a paved road, which we follow to the right. At “Am Hohlbrunnen,” a Kneipp basin 03 awaits us, offering a wonderful refreshment on hot summer days. We then continue along the M1 on the paved road until it eventually turns into a gravel path. We then reach another paved road, which we follow to the right along the Breitbachtalweg and M1 toward Mönchsondheim. Along the Breitbach, it’s now a good half-hour walk back to Mönchsondheim 01.
