The ascent to the Haindlkar hut is, as the name suggests, an ascent in a cirque and therefore it hardly lacks gravel, which in a few places must also be overcome with surefootedness. The ascent is pleasant, only steep in a few short sections, and leads along the Haindlkar creek towards the imposing rock faces of the Hochtor group. Just before the hut stands the old Haindlkar hut, the first shelter for climbers in this area.

Alongside the Dachstein, the Erzberg is probably the most famous mountain in Styria. The mountain bears witness to the centuries-old mining tradition in Styria.
