Hiking on Tyrol's high plateau

The Olympiaregion Seefeld around the towns of Seefeld, Leutasch and Scharnitz is a holiday region in Tyrol with an attractive offer for both active people and those seeking relaxation.

The Seefeld Plateau is situated at an altitude of 1,200 meters high above the Inn valley and is framed by an impressive mountain range. To the west stretches the Karwendel with its rugged peaks, to the east the Mieming Mountains, and to the north the Wetterstein Mountains. Especially the view of the magnificent summit Hohe Munde is impressive. To the south, the plateau is open towards the Inn valley and offers views towards the main Alpine ridge.

Long hikes on alpine pastures and to huts

For hiking enthusiasts, the Seefeld region is a true paradise, covering everything from alpine hikes to exposed and scenic peaks to leisurely rounds in the valley, around lakes and through forests. In summer and especially in autumn, when the larches shine in golden attire, the area is a popular destination for extensive hikes. From the large selection of hikes over the 600-kilometer long network of trails, we present some here.

  • Eppzirler Alm and Nördlinger Hut: This circular hike around the Seefeld local mountain is quite challenging due to its length but rewards with breathtaking landscapes and several opportunities to stop. The start and end points are at the valley station of the Rosshütte cable car. Scenic highlights await you in the Grießerbach valley and at the Ursprungsattel.
  • Hohe Munde via Rauthütte: The challenging tour to the Hohe Munde is one of the region's showcase tours and offers a special summit experience to all who have the necessary fitness. But even the shorter variant to the Rauthütte has its charms.

Challenging peak tours around Seefeld

In the Seefeld region, there are numerous opportunities for hikes on huts, alpine pastures, and further on scenic peaks. Whether you are looking for a challenging tour that requires good fitness and surefootedness or want to take a leisurely hike with the whole family to a managed hut, you will surely find the right tour. We have created a small selection here for you:

  • King's tour to the Seefelder Spitze: The tour to the Seefelder Spitze and further to the Reither Spitze is a classic in the western Karwendel. The length of this alpine tour, which requires surefootedness and experience, can be significantly shortened by two cable car rides from Seefeld. The scenic experience is worth the effort in any case.
  • Gehrenspitz: Above Leutasch lies the Gehrenspitze, a wonderful viewpoint peak in the Wetterstein mountains. The hike starts at the Gaistal car park and passes the Wettersteinhütte and Wangalm. After over 1,200 meters of altitude gain, you reach the summit and can enjoy the magnificent view.

The most beautiful hikes for families

For a beautiful hiking experience, you don't necessarily have to leave the valley towards the summit. On the plateau, there are many lovely hikes that are suitable for the whole family and some are also accessible. Right around Seefeld, for example, lies the Wildsee, which is excellent for hiking. The hike through the Gleirschklamm is a bit more challenging. Narrow paths lead through the impressive gorge, so sure-footedness is required.

And these are not all the exciting tours yet. Here are a few more hiking tips:

  • Hike to the Eppzirler Alm
  • Hike to the Gaistalalm & Tillfussalm
  • Round hike to the Kurblhang viewing platform
