This fascinating route offers several highlights; it takes you to the summit of Gaccio, which offers a panoramic view of the coast in front, and then passes through the Principality of Seborga, a territory that claims independence from Italy.

Picturesque mountain villages in the hinterland of VentimigliaThis hike follows a rarely well-preserved mule track, like those that used to be frequented – by people along with their pack animals, the mules and donkeys. In the mountainous Liguria, these were the main connecting routes from villages to the coast and the Po Valley. Anyone who has ever walked behind a mule knows how extremely sure-footed and good-natured these animals are, as strong as a horse and as hardy as a donkey – exactly the stones they touch with their front hooves, they also step on with their hind hooves. Before or after the hike, be sure to visit the picturesque medieval village center of Apricale, which was built in the shadow of a fortification dating back to the 11th century. It's definitely worth it!

Ridge hike above Sanremo and BordigheraThis full-day hike combines the ascents of Monte Caggio, Monte Carparo, and Monte Nero with an extensive ridge hike, finishing with a strenuous and often hot descent to Bordighera-Arziglia. It is feasible year-round, in this length only in summer because three-quarters of the route passes through shady forest. From Monte Caggio, on Monte Carparo, and at the hang-glider launch site, you have sensational views!

This is the second part of the round about Negi Fumei from the San Bartolomeo chapel Unfortunately, the area around Monte Carparo turns into a bike arena with terribly worn, damaged paths, and the 3 km from Seborga on the country road back to Negi Fumei is also not really enjoyable

The local mountain of SanremoMonte Bignone in the hinterland of Sanremo is one of the most visited mountains in Liguria with its many hiking trails, despite the former cable car being shut down and many TV and mobile phone masts disfiguring it today. However, the actual summit, with its rotunda, is located somewhat further north and higher: It offers a wide view over the western Ligurian Riviera and towards the highest mountains of Liguria on the border ridge to France.

Behind Sanremo, famous Ligurian tourist destination, the landscape is hilly and covered with woodland. From the top of Monte Bignone the view ranges from the coast to the close Armea Valley as far as the Ligurian and Maritime Alps. Despite its closeness to the sea, Monte Bignone rises 1300 m above the sea level. This hike starts from the village of San Romolo (765 m), located at the centre of a mountainous area popular among hikers and mountain bikers. On the top of the mountain are the remains of a pre-roman defensive settlement which dates back to the 5th century.
