An intense and streneous hike. The path is incredibly steep all the way so make sure you are fit. This is the shortest way to hike Slogen, but also by far the steepest.

High above Union ØyeThe Slogen in the Sunnmørsalpene has been one of Norway's dream peaks since the 19th century. In a pyramidal triangular shape, it rises almost vertically 1564 m. At its feet stands the stylish Hotel Union Øye, built in Swiss style since 1891. Famous guests like Roald Amundsen, Emperor Wilhelm II., Fridtjof Nansen, Queen Beatrix, Arthur Conan Doyle, Karen Blixen, and King Haakon VII stayed here to find relaxation in the magnificent mountain world of the Sunnmørsalpene. Even today, people stay and dine here in an extraordinary atmosphere. The charming Norangsdalen, leading up to an altitude of 300 m and flanked by mountain massifs up to 1700 m high, is full of exciting stories about (literally) sunken alpine pastures. Old stone bridges testify to the importance of the road as an old trade route but also as a tourist link to Hellesylt and Geiranger.

Between climbing peaks from Rome Valley to Molla ValleyIn the municipality of Ørsta west of the Hjørundfjorden, this hike leads through a stunning mountain backdrop. From the spectacular Romedalen, it goes over into the southern end of the Molladalen. The drive through Romedalen is already breathtakingly beautiful. Ultimately, the toll road can also be used as a comfortable hiking and cycling path along the Romedalselva with its steep climbing walls. Below the Romedalstinden (1295 m), the toll road ends at the Steinstøylen alpine pasture with its picturesque alpine huts.

The idyllic village of Sæbø, untouched by tourism, lies in a narrow valley along the Hjørundfjord. The mountains surrounding the valley have taken on alpine forms as a result of thousands of years of massive erosion. Just north of Sæbø lies Dalegubben, a spectacular mountain peak. From its summit, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the majestically towering Sunnmørsalpene—as this mountain range is also known—as well as a sweeping view down into the Hjørundfjord. The landscape is so impressive that photos taken from every angle look like little works of art. However, the price to pay is high: over a distance of 3.7 km, you must climb 1,300 meters in elevation.> From the small parking area just north of 01Sæbø, we walk past the beach toward the town center. At the next opportunity, we turn right onto Kvievegen and pass public restrooms and a parking lot. A wide path winds uphill through a series of switchbacks. After passing a few brown buildings, a trail begins. At the next fork, we take the left-hand branch and cross a gravel road to a wooden shelter by a pond. This is waypoint 02Gapahuken Bygd. A wooden bridge spans a stream. Passing numerous woodcarvings and through a wooded area, we reach a beautiful covered picnic area and Waypoint 03, Synspunkt. As we continue climbing, we ignore the trail branching off to the right toward Brattåsen/Åsen. After a short downhill section where we cross a stream, the trail forks. Since the right path is shorter, we take it. Through the wide Skondalen valley, we climb up to two erosion gullies. Here, the trail is not clearly marked. There is a red marker on a large rock next to the second erosion gully (slightly to the right). From there, a well-trodden path becomes visible again. We leave the green 04Skondalen behind us and begin climbing over gravel. Now we climb steeply through scree toward a saddle visible to the right of the rocky peak of Dalegubben. We cross this to the right and, using our hands for support on a rocky path, reach the summit of 05Dalegubben. We return along the same route we took on the way there, all the way to 01 Sæbø.

The Mollatal Valley, home to the 773-meter-high Storevatnet, is surrounded by spectacular peaks such as the 1,419-meter-high Ramon Jønshornet, the 1,414-meter-high Molladalstindane, and the 1,354-meter-high Mohns topp. When hikers reach the end of the valley, the scenery resembles a giant amphitheater. Storevatnet forms the central arena, while the spectacularly terraced towers and peaks provide ample space for spectator stands. From the lake, however, the climbing destination Bladet—located above the glacier behind it—cannot be seen, as it is obscured by Mohns to the east. Bladet is probably the most photographed rock spire in Norway. The approximately 15-meter-high ascent is rated difficulty level 4. That was just a bit of background information, because on today’s hike we’ll stick to something easier and enjoy the unique view.> From the parking lot at the end of 01Molladalsvegen, near the information board with the green roof, we head toward the already signposted Molladalen. Shortly afterward, the trail crosses a bridge. In some sections, large rocks or stepping slabs have been laid along the trail. At the start of a narrow gorge, we ignore a path branching off to the right. At the next 02 fork in the trail, we take the right-hand fork, and at the third fork before the rock, we take the left-hand fork. This path leads along an exposed rocky outcrop secured with chains. At the hilltop and the fourth 03 fork, we ignore the trail branching off to the left (our return route) and walk through a dip to climb back up the opposite slope. Once we reach the hilltop, the trail forks again; we take the path slightly to the left. As soon as Lake Storevatnet comes fully into view, we descend a few meters off-trail to a crossing path and follow it to the right until we reach the outlet of 04 Storevatnet. When the water level is high, we cannot cross without getting our feet wet and have to wade through. In some places, the trail around the lake is not clearly visible, so we have to improvise. We cross two more tributaries of the lake and then hike along the northern shore. In doing so, we cross a slope eroded by water and finally reach a hill with a large rock. Behind it lies the 05 trail junction. We continue straight ahead, crossing a slope in a long left-hand curve, and eventually reach the 03 trail fork. Here we turn right onto the familiar path leading to 01 Molladalsvegen.
