There are many ways to explore Norway. The beauty of the numerous fjords is best experienced from the water. That’s why we’re starting today’s tour with a spectacular boat ride across the Geirangerfjord to a small landing stage. From there, you’ll have a wonderful view of the Dei sju systrene (Knivsflåfossen), also known as “The Seven Sisters.” Seven waterfalls side by side—the tallest of which is about 250 meters high—plunge into the fjord. On the opposite shore lies Friaren, also known as “The Suitor,” a solitary waterfall that has been courting her favor in vain for millennia. Unfortunately, we cannot see him from where we stand. Next, the ascent begins to the abandoned historic mountain farm Skageflå, arguably the most famous farm on the Geirangerfjord. The trail has some very steep sections. The trail then winds its way up to 500 m above the fjord, passing beautiful viewpoints on the way back toward Geiranger.> From the Skagehola pier ( No. 01) on the Geirangerfjord, an extremely steep trail leads uphill. Below a steep rock face, the trail is secured with safety ropes and a railing. From this section, you’ll already encounter beautiful viewpoints, especially of the Knivsflåfossen waterfall. At the abandoned farm 02Skageflå, there’s also a breathtaking view down into the fjord near the old transport cable car. Behind the huts, the trail continues toward the signposted village of Homlung. A spectacular section of the trail runs along the base of a steep rock face, and another section is secured by a rope. At the next fork in the trail, it’s worth taking a detour to the left. It leads to a breathtaking viewpoint at an elevation of about 500 m, directly above the fjord. You then continue in the direction you were heading until you reach the rustic cabins at 03Holmungsætra. During the subsequent descent, you can already see the town of Geiranger from another cabin. First, you’ll reach the scattered settlement of 04 Homlung. From there, the trail continues along the access road by the Geirangerfjord. When cruise ships are docked in the harbor, the sight of these vessels—some as tall as 13 stories—is quite bizarre. From the campground, we then turn right over the bridge across the Geirangelva River and, past the parking lot, reach the boat docks in 05Geiranger.

A nice, very popular hike. The path is mostly paved. At the end you can take a small path down and walk behind the waterfall.

Hier waren einige ungewollte Rutsch-Passagen dabei.
