The varied hike to nature and technology leads from the Kyll valley up to the wooded heights of the Steinert and to the bare Goldberg, an extinct volcano. Here the layering of the lava masses can be beautifully seen. The last section is a lovely path along the Kronenburger See. Partially you walk local and Eifel Club hiking trails, with the latter well marked. Two moderately steep ascents and descents.

The route, hiked on a hot and muggy August day, begins near the Hubertus inn. It mostly follows wide, gravelled farm roads past many wind energy plants (WEAs), including to the source of the Prüm in the Arenberg forest. The route is not signposted; the track is required for retracing it.
