The Thuringian Three-Towers Route offers an attractive combination of nature, culture, spirit, and Thuringian tradition. The good accessibility of the circular route by private and public transport allows for flexible division of the hiking route and an individual starting point.

In Buchenwald to Two Historic Observation Towers The impression may be deceiving, but in hardly any region do more hills seem to be crowned with historic buildings of various functions and origins than in the hilly land between Weimar, Jena, and Ilmenau. This is largely due to a real "construction boom" in the 19th and early 20th centuries, to which many observation towers are also owed: There are round and square, tall and low, simple and elaborate ones. Two of these towers, the Carolinen- and Paulinenturm, mark the eastern and western points of this tour, which runs mostly on easy-to-walk paths through Buchenwald. The return takes place in the Ilm valley.
