The 10 most beautiful hikes in Kitzbühel
Hiking and more in Kitzbühel
Kitzbühel is one of the largest sports towns in the Alps, and not only in winter. The town of 8,000 inhabitants also offers a wide range of sporting activities in summer. Whether by bike or on foot, the Kitzbühl Alps are simply a dream and rightly have the reputation of being super mountains for hiking, ski touring and mountain biking.
Almost all of the peaks can be climbed without too many technical feats. However, the hikes are quite long, so a good portion of fitness is not a bad thing. If you feel like a different kind of activity, you can also enjoy a leisurely swim at the Schwarzensee lake, play a round of tennis or take an e-bike to a mountain pasture for a snack.
Hiking paradise Kitzbüheler Horn
The Kitzbüheler Horn in the north of the city is a mountain with many possibilities. Whether from the very bottom or from the Horn Haus, it is worth climbing the magnificent panoramic peak. Even though there is sometimes a lot of activity here, you will always find quiet places where you can take in the magnificent landscape in peace and quiet. Everyone is sure to find their own hike on the Horn: if you don't want to walk 1000 metres uphill, take the cable car to the Alpenhaus. Then you can set off on one of the numerous routes on and around the Horn.
A highlight awaits you on the Horn.
A highlight awaits you in the Alpine Flower Garden just below the summit. Alpine flowers and plants from all over the world grow here in an area of 20,000 square metres. If you have already come this far, you should also complete the last 150 metres of ascent, because the view is one of the best in the Tyrolean lowlands. The descent via the Bichlalm is highly recommended. After a stop for refreshments, you can take the chairlift back down to the valley.
How long does it take to hike up the Streif?
The Hahnenkamm is the second big classic around Kitzbühel. The Hahnenkamm is also home to the world's most famous downhill ski run, the Streif. If you want to take a closer look at the steep slopes in summer and get a feel for how challenging the terrain really is, you can hike up here and take a close look at the key spots such as Zielschuss, Hausberg and Seidlalm. Thanks to the Hahnenkamm cable car, you can also do the hike downhill.
Uphill, the 5 km hike with around 900 metres of altitude takes about 3 hours. Downhill it is a little faster. For hiking downhill, we recommend that you take poles with you!
Hikes for the whole family in Kitzbühel
The Kitzbüheler Alps are also a great hiking area for families with children. There are varied routes both in the valley and on the mountain that are technically easy. On hot summer days, a short walk around the Schwarzensee lake is highly recommended. Afterwards you can visit the lido and enjoy the warm water of the lake.
Thanks to the cable cars and the often well-developed hiking trails, many hikes can also be undertaken with children in the summit regions. The mountain ridge between Hahnenkamm and Pengelstein is ideal for such hikes. On wide paths you can also pass by numerous huts and photo spots!
At the foot of the Kitzbüheler Horn, an easy hike runs along the Kitzbüheler Bauernhausweg. Against the impressive backdrop of the Alps, hikers have the opportunity to discover Kitzbühel's Welsh roots at the Farm Museum and the historic Tennerhof farm.
