The “Streif” is considered the classic and most difficult downhill racecourse in the world and attracts thousands of spectators every year. The alpine ski disciplines “Super-G” and “downhill” are held here, with the Super-G being a shortened course. Two particularly successful racers are Franz Klammer, who won the downhill four times (1975, 1976, 1977, 1984), and Hermann Meier, who won the Super-G five times (2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006). Women’s downhills are not held here. We take the Hahnenkamm cable car up to the starting point of the Streif – and simultaneously our hike – and on the way downhill to the valley we pass not only the various key points of the famous racecourse marked by gates but also the Seidlalm Lake and cozy places to stop for a break. The views of the Kitzbühel Alps, the Kaiser Mountains, and the town of Kitzbühel in the valley are always a delight. At the mountain station of the Hahnenkamm cable car, the Bergbahn museum also invites you to visit.
