The GR 11, also known as the Ruta Transpirenaica or Senda Pirenaica, is a long-distance hiking trail that crosses the Pyrenees in Spain from west to east.
The GR 11 begins spectacularly on the Atlantic Ocean and combines coastal flair, low mountain ranges and Basque villages on its first stage to create a varied start.
A small but incredibly beautiful tour in the Aizondo Valley to the foot of the region's largest and highest waterfall in Irun/Trois Couronne.
It starts at the old ironworks from the mid-19th century and goes at a height of 150 m above the gorge, initially on parallel paths past old mines and caves, then leading to the foot of the waterfall. On the way back, there is a loop with views of the Jaikzibel and the beautiful hilly landscape of the Basque Country.
On this tour we are on the Pass Höhensteasse of the Aiako Harria National Park, just below the Troi Coronne (Peñas de Aia), at Mount Erlaitz.
Starting from the Erlaitz information point (parking lot), this tour gives us the opportunity to get to know both slopes of the mountain. On the north side, we find the remains of the Meazuri mine and an excellent panoramic view of the Aitzondo waterfall. On the southern slope, however, we pass Pagogaina, always under the watchful eye of the peaks of Peñas de Aia.
In the heart of Euskadi's most inaccessible natural parkThe Aiako Harria Natural Park (Spanish: Peñas de Aia) is a world of its own. Although it is very close to Donostia/San Sebastián and Irún, this peculiar landscape gives a very distinctive impression. Furthermore, the entrance to the sparsely populated, mountainous natural park is very complicated, and this natural barrier keeps the crowds away. This classic and very varied tour circles the landmark of the natural park, the distinctively shaped massif of Aiako Harria.
From the Atlantic coast at Hendaye to the Mediterranean Sea at Banyuls-sur-Mer. An epic trail of 800 kilometers where you cross the Pyrenees. During the 45 stages, you cross the borders with Spain, France, and Andorra several times.
