Forecast for Grüntensee

10-day forecast
The Grüntensee is a reservoir in the Oberallgäu district. It has a length of 2.5 kilometres and a depth of 11.2 kilometres - its circumference is around 8.2 kilometres. It is a popular destination for hikers because of the surrounding hiking trails. This is not least due to the particularly varied landscape in the immediate vicinity of the watercourse. In the immediate vicinity of the lake there is a varied landscape of hills, and hiking tours into the mountains are also possible. Thus, both beginners and experienced sportsmen can let off steam along the hiking trails around the Grüntensee. The region around the Grüntensee and along the Wertach is particularly popular for hiking in summer and autumn. You can enjoy the nature at the water's edge to the fullest and at the same time enjoy beautiful views of the surroundings.

How long does it take to walk around the Grüntensee?

It is also possible to walk around the Grüntensee – the route is 9 kilometres, which means you will need 2 to 2.5 hours for one lap, depending on your fitness. At the natural bathing area „Wertach erleben“ you can even dive into the cold water of the Grüntensee.

Hiking along the Grüntensee dam wall

Walkers can enjoy a picturesque view of the lake along the dam wall. The trails are flat in this area, making them a good choice for families with children. For all fitness levels with some stamina, the hike „Grüntensee and Kletterwald“ is a good choice. You can reach the starting point by car or by public transport. The tour is about 9 kilometres long and takes an average of 2.5 hours. It is one of the most easily manageable walks and is challenging mainly because of its length.

For brave explorers, a visit to the Grüntensee climbing forest is worthwhile. There, big and small alike can climb high and your hiking holiday will become a joyful experience for the whole family with a bit of variety.

A lake at the foot of the Allgäu Alps

If you want to try something more challenging, we recommend a trip to the Allgäu Alps. There you will also find the mountain that gives the lake its name, the Grünten. In this region, you can look forward not only to varied hikes, but also to picturesque views of the region. The mountains extend all the way to Austria, with the Grosse Krottenkopf being the highest mountain at 2,656 metres – the Grünten is 1,737.9 metres high. You will find good hiking trails here.

However, you still need to be prepared for hiking tours in the mountains with appropriate equipment. Make sure you have sturdy footwear and spare rainwear with you. Solid hiking skills are required for the tours in the Alps.

The hike into the mountains

If you want to enjoy a picturesque view of the Gröntensee and the Alps, you should go on a hike to the Alpe Reuterwanne. A popular hiking tour is the Reuterwanne-Runde, the starting point of which is near the lake. This is a moderately difficult hike, but requires a good level of fitness. The Alpe Obere Reuterwanne is a highlight. From there, hikers can enjoy a view of the valley. The hike is about 12 kilometres long. You will need about 4.5 hours for the tour. To hike into the mountains, you need a good basic level of fitness and sturdy shoes.
