This hike takes us from Wertach once around the Grüntensee. The reservoir is a popular destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts of all kinds - whether hikers, cyclists, joggers, or water sports enthusiasts. Several lawns invite bathers to the lake. And those who want to go higher get their money's worth at the Grüntensee adventure forest on the northeast shore. Families are best off at the Buron Children's Park, located near the Grüntensee campsite on the south shore, featuring a giant slide, tubing run, large playground, and many other attractions that ensure no boredom.
The circular hiking trail around Grüntensee itself is also worth seeing. The first section runs along the wildlife teaching path, where several display boards invite you to puzzle along. Through the forest, the path continues over soft, springy ground called the "bark path." A highlight is the dam on the northern shore near the adventure forest. From the dam, there is a particularly beautiful view over the lake and up to the 1738 m high Grünten, which rises on the horizon above the lake and is also its namesake. Finally, we walk along the fishing teaching path by the shore and learn interesting facts about the inhabitants of the water body.
Author’s recommendation
Those who want to enjoy the atmosphere at the lake and the view of Grünten a little longer can rent a canoe or a standup paddleboard for a fee at the bathing area in Haslach Bay. There is a natural swimming area with a 30-meter-long adventure jetty and pedal boat rental at the Grüntensee campsite.
We start the 12 km route at the town hall/tourist information, where free parking is also available. It goes down Schleifweg and under the B 310. Just before the bridge, we turn left and walk along the wildlife teaching path to Grüntensee. At the next junction, we keep left. At the signpost, go straight ahead – the path runs close to the lake – keep right through the forest onto the "bark path" that leads to the Haslach Campsite (playground) and Haslach Bay (swimming area). We come to the Grüntensee Adventure Forest (refreshment opportunity). Then it continues over the dam – here the lake shows its most beautiful side – with Grünten (1738 m) high in the background, also called the "guardian of the Allgäu." At the end of the dam, the path steeply descends to the right. Along the fishing teaching path, we reach the Grüntensee Campsite (lawn for sunbathing, swimming area, boat rental, playground, restaurant). At the district road (footpath) turn right – past the St. Sebastians Chapel (Kleine Wies) back to Wertach.
