Note: A Mr Pfade route partly served as a template here
This route leads from Waldesch via Mariaroth, the quarry ridge, and through the Kondertal. I omitted the originally planned start because the weather made the round already exciting with frozen ground.
Two notes at the beginning: The route includes a section above an old quarry that is dangerous and should only be attempted by experienced hikers. Children should not be taken here. However, this section can be bypassed.
The back part of the route runs along the Eschbach. I walked on the right side but sometimes had to crawl on my knees under fallen trees. There is, however, an alternative forest path on the left side of the stream.
Overall, a really great route, but also demanding. The elevation meters are well distributed, but the descents are also partly challenging. Surefootedness is a must, as is a head for heights on the quarry ridge path. Not doable without a hiking app.
Have fun!

Here, the Moselle hinterland once again shows itself at its best: The Schwalberstieg trail winds its way through two secluded stream valleys and, in between, across the scenic Moselle plateau, passing three isolated farmsteads. The interplay of quiet forest sections and scenic stretches across the plateau is what makes this hike so appealing. Jungle-like trails lead through stream valleys to sweeping views from the Hitzlay and the Mönch-Felix-Hütte observation tower.

Through quiet stream valleys to Hitzlay and the Mönch-Felix-Hütte hutWe initially climb for a long time along the Aspeler Bach and Schwalberbach streams through the quiet hinterland. The only sounds to be heard here are the babbling brook and the chirping of birds. We reach an open plateau from where we can see far into the volcanic Eifel. Finally, the real highlights follow: From the Hitzlay viewing platform, we have a steep view down to the Lehmen barrage and from the Mönch-Felix-Hütte we can see four castles at once. If you prefer a short loop and want to avoid the long climbs, it is better to hike the Traumpfädchen (see variant).
