We initially climb for a long time along the Aspeler Bach and Schwalberbach streams through the quiet hinterland. The only sounds to be heard here are the babbling brook and the chirping of birds. We reach an open plateau from where we can see far into the volcanic Eifel. Finally, the real highlights follow: From the Hitzlay viewing platform, we have a steep view down to the Lehmen barrage and from the Mönch-Felix-Hütte we can see four castles at once. If you prefer a short loop and want to avoid the long climbs, it is better to hike the Traumpfädchen (see variant).
At the hikers' parking lot at Linkemühle, follow the path from the information board to the left parallel to the road. At a fork, the Traumpfad and Traumpfädchen separate. We continue to the left, cross the road and the Aspeler Bach stream and walk along the narrow Schwalberbach stream. We cross it on a footbridge and about 800 m further on we change sides of the stream again. We ascend in the forest and reach a wide forest path, which we follow to the right. In an arc across meadows, we reach the secluded Schwalberhof farm. There we follow the asphalt path to the left and then turn left. We come back to the Schwalberbach stream and walk uphill along it for a good 1 km. Then our path turns right (south) and leads us more steeply up to the fields at the Arkenwälderhof, where we reach the highest point of the hike. We go straight down to the edge of the forest and take a sharp right turn. Shortly afterwards, we turn right onto a path that leads us down into the valley of the Aspeler Bach
