Hikes on the Roof of Europe

Davos is the perfect destination for nature and hiking lovers who are looking for something special. Mighty mountains, sun-kissed alpine pastures, lush meadows and the picturesque Lake Davos are the ideal backdrop for hiking, discovering and experiencing. More than 700 kilometres of well-maintained hiking trails and footpaths through the wild and romantic alpine world offer just the right hiking tours for every level of fitness. And it goes high up, because the holiday resort lies at an altitude of 1,560 metres, which has earned it the nickname "Europe's highest town". Here you are hiking at the highest level.

Circular hike around Lake Davos - easy introductory circuit

A well-known saying goes: "Davos, where it's at its best". And with this slogan, one of the shortest but most prominent hiking trails presents the popular Swiss holiday resort from its most attractive side. Always along the water, you walk leisurely in the shade of the majestic mountains that picturesquely surround the lake. The hiking route runs through open terrain as well as through spacious forest regions where tame squirrels cavort. So, feel free to pack some nets for the tour.

Our tip for a stop: Hotel-Restaurant Seebüel

Hiking tours that are simply fun

The alpine region of Davos in the east of Switzerland offers you hikes from easy to difficult with magnificent panoramas. The dreamlike landscape and the spectacular views provide pure hiking pleasure. The hikes around Davos' local mountain, the striking Jakobshorn, are particularly popular. But other mountain tours also take you into the wonderful hiking world of Graubünden. Here are a few hiking trails for every level of fitness:

  • From Weissfluhjoch to Schatzalp (easy)
  • From Jakobshorn über das Jatzhorn ins Sertigtal (medium)
  • To the Schwarzhorn über dem Flüelapass (difficult)

Varied leisure activities

In addition to its enchanting hiking trails, Davos has many other ways to spend a varied break. For example, Davos has an excellent network of mountain bike trails. Or how about a speedy scooter ride on the Rinerhorn? If you want to explore the area from the tranquil side, a romantic ride in a horse-drawn carriage is worthwhile.

Humid water sports fun such as surfing, paddling or pedal boating awaits you at the picturesque Davos Lake. Here, in the "Caribbean of the Swiss Alps", you can relax and unwind, and if you prefer to climb high, a day trip to the exciting Davos Climbing and Adventure Park is worthwhile.

What is Davos known for?

Europe's highest city is considered the cradle of winter sports. In 1883, the very first sledge race was held here. At the same time, the traditional "Davos sledge" got its name. But the climatic health resort, to which Thomas Mann dedicated his novel "The Magic Mountain", is also known for its exceptional leisure and cultural activities in summer and winter, for its culinary highlights and its elegant shopping mile. Not to be forgotten are the Kirchner Museum, the World Economic Forum and the famous Spengler Cup, an annual ice hockey tournament.
