Vines.sun.love. The Moosmann family lives by this motto: producing excellent wines with joy.
In 1973, Siegfried and Klara Moosmann took over their mixed agricultural business from the Moosmann grandparents. They soon focussed more and more on viticulture and at the beginning of the 1980s, the business was completely converted. During 1986, a new cellar building with a showroom was built and the 1986 vintage was stored and expanded for the first time. In February 1987, they opened the shop in the company building, where many wine lovers and customers have been visiting ever since. In the meantime, the building has been extended three times, as the vineyard area has grown from 7.5 hectares at the beginning to 22 hectares today. Since 1994, son Georg Moosmann has been responsible for winemaking at our winery after completing his training as a winemaker and later as a viticultural technician. He carefully looks after the musts right through to bottling, giving each wine the opportunity to develop its own special flavour. We cultivate steep vineyards in Buchholz and Sexau. Rocky, weathered gneiss soil characterises the work in the vineyard and the wines grown here. These hot, dry soils produce expressive wines. In Herbolzheim and Mundingen, our plots lie on deep loess, which produces softer and more velvety wines. This is why we only grow Burgundy varieties and a small parcel of Muscatel there.
Our varietal structure is centred on the Burgundy family. Half of our vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir. This is followed by Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. As is customary in Baden, we also grow Müller-Thurgau and Riesling, which are particularly popular as accompaniments to food. Muscat and Gewürztraminer round off our range. Since 2004, you can also enjoy our Sauvignon Blanc and a cuvée of Cabernet grapes.
Care in the vineyard and cellar combined with constant striving for quality has been rewarded: in 2006, we were awarded the Breisgau region prize of honour at the Baden state wine awards for the twelfth time since 1994. We have also won awards at the international "Mundus Vini" tasting and other forums.
In addition to wine, we also grow fruit for our distillery. The different varieties ripen in our orchards and are then distilled into fine spirits. Of course, we also produce the typical spirits of a winegrower: wine yeast and marc.
The family is the heart of our business. Siegfried and Georg Moosmann, father and son, run the winery together. Daughter Michaela was elected Baden Wine Queen 1999/2000 on 1 July 1999. She presented Baden wines at home and abroad for one year. Since July 2006, she has been working in our winery as a qualified business economist.
You are welcome to get to know all the other family members and specialities of our winery during a personal visit!
