The Maier Organic Winery (BIO Weingut Maier) offers more than just good organic wines. In Haueneberstein, there is also a lovely flower shop that sells wine, the ‘Wein-Bleibe’ – built in 2018 – and the wine-tasting room ‘Peter’s Weinkehr’ to discover.

Winery
These organic wines are honest and uncomplicated, yet each has its own distinct character. Simply authentic organic wines from Baden that you don’t need to swirl around in your mouth three times to savour the finest nuances. Here you’ll find wines from 10 hectares of the finest sites in Baden, including vineyards on the Mauerberg in Neuweier and the Eckberg in Baden-Baden. Thanks to the varied soils and altitudes, each wine’s flavour clearly reflects its origin. The focus is on natural viticulture, and the vineyards have been free from harsh chemical treatments for over 20 years. Instead, plant-based remedies, genuine manual labour and minimal mechanical intervention are employed. As a further aspect of sustainability, many new grape varieties – the so-called ‘Piwi’ (robust, fungus-resistant varieties) – have been planted over the past few years. These are ideally suited to organic viticulture, as they reduce the need for plant protection products by up to 80 per cent. This reduces CO₂ emissions and protects the vineyard soil, making the whole endeavour even more appealing. The estate has been certified organic since 2015. Following a three-year conversion period, all wines from the 2018 vintage onwards are fully certified organic.

Staying overnight at the vineyard
Also in 2018, the guesthouse ‘Die Wein-Bleibe’ was established, where you can make yourselves at home. There are a total of 8 rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and satellite TV. Some rooms also feature a small self-catering unit, ideal for food and wine enthusiasts. The décor remains true to the organic ethos, featuring an upmarket country-house style with real wood furniture. ‘Die Wein-Bleibe’ was built using eco-friendly timber construction methods and is equipped with a sophisticated eco-energy system.

Take some time out at the organic vineyard and enjoy the wide range of wine tastings and events in a cosy atmosphere. From there, you can simply stumble straight across the road into bed. Organic holidays in luxury.

Local delights
Another highlight is ‘Peter’s Weinkehr’. A place that reflects the estate’s philosophy in every respect. You can pop in here all year round during regular opening hours, stop for a drink, enjoy all the wines and juices, and sample some light bites to eat.
