At the foot of the Hinterwaldkopf near Hinterzarten lies the “Hinterwaldkopfhütte” alpine inn, at an altitude of 1,090 metres. It has a sunny south-facing terrace with views of the Feldberg, surrounded by alpine meadows. It is also a popular destination in winter, far from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes.

Ideally situated at the foot of the Hinterwaldkopf, not far from
Hinterzarten, the Almgasthof, at an altitude of 1,090 metres, is a mountain hut combining
traditional architecture with modern comforts. The sun terrace is surrounded by fragrant alpine meadows and offers views of the Feldberg. Its south-facing position ensures sunshine from morning until evening. Far removed from
ski tourism, the Almgasthof is also a very popular destination in winter.
The hut is not accessible by car
The Hinterwaldkopfhütte cannot be reached by car, but can be reached on foot, for example from the ‘Gasthaus zum Engel’ hiking car park, from Himmelreich railway station or from Kirchzarten.
The sunny terrace invites you to enjoy the view whilst savouring regional specialities and home-made delicacies. Whether as a break during a long hike, a mountain bike ride or a snowshoe trek in winter.
The “Hinterwaldkopf” summit with stunning views
The Hinterwaldkopf itself is not only scenically beautiful, with its views across the Dreisam Valley as far as the Vosges, but also a place steeped in history. The summit plateau, with its memorial, serves as a reminder of the region’s turbulent past.
