Accommodation in Maramureș

From vacation homes and refurbished traditional cottages to campsites modeled after foreign examples. Free accommodation can be found outdoors, in the mountains. But for that, you need to make a little effort to carry your tent on your back.

The microbe of a more sophisticated tourism offer has also entered this land so strongly rooted in traditional values. Thus, recently, in Maramureș, you have at least one glamping, very welcome indeed, in one of the least promoted areas of the region.

However, the accommodation options in the region are numerous and varied. It's just that we haven't covered all of them.

Most of the accommodations are concentrated in the main cities and in popular localities on the picturesque valleys of historic Maramureș.

For traditional accommodations, you need to head to traditional villages such as Breb, Mara, Botiza, Repedea.

A big advantage if you stay in such destinations is that you can find activities just a few kilometers away from the accommodation place. Just around Breb you have many hiking trails, churches, or places to seek out and see.

At the foothills of the Maramureș Mountains, on the Repedea Valley, there are some of the most beautiful traditional accommodations in wooden houses, with porches and spacious yards. An ideal place to spiritually prepare yourself to set off towards the highest peak in these mountains, Farcău Peak. And then, to recover.

In the Rodnei Mountains, things are a bit different. Here you can find lodging opportunities for adventurers, meaning the shores of the lakes in the official basins, whether marked as campsites or not. Or the shelters in the main ridge. For all of these, you don't need a reservation, but you can expect to find them occupied by other hikers, especially in summer.

To see the northern part of the county, the most convenient option would be accommodation also in the area, so you can quickly reach the attractions here, and maybe have time for a hike too. Many people do nothing else in Sighetu Marmației or Săpânța than checking off the attractions here, even though there are trails to explore in this part as well.
