In Engelhartszell, it’s better to take the left bank of the Danube; the right bank is hilly. There are some challenges before Grein, including two very steep sections ( approx. 10 meters). After Melk, when switching to the left bank of the Danube, there is a very steep climb up to the bridge (18%). The surfaces through the towns are often cobblestone. The ferries are accessible by handbike. However, the descent to the ferry is usually very steep on rough cobblestones. Two accompanying persons are usually necessary here.

This easy hiking path is barrierfree and well suited for Nordic walking. Very family-friendly with playgrounds along the way.

A six and a half kilometer route, mostly on well-maintained roads and paths. About 45 percent of the route is paved, the rest are well-maintained, easily passable gravel paths. Unfortunately, there is only one bench to rest on the entire route, located at our destination, the 500-year-old oak tree. The path is not signposted, but a very good hiking map is available at the municipal office. Due to the length of the route, it should only be traveled alone by people with good fitness or with an electric wheelchair (with towing aid). Binoculars, a snack, and sun protection on hot days are recommended. Mosquito repellent is also advisable during the summer months due to the proximity to water.
