This route follows a traffic-safe bike and pedestrian path along the Danube and is well marked. In Vilshofen, you can make a detour into the town. The path repeatedly leads through parts of the Bavarian Forest Nature Park and offers a lot of nature.

In Engelhartszell, it’s better to take the left bank of the Danube; the right bank is hilly. There are some challenges before Grein, including two very steep sections ( approx. 10 meters). After Melk, when switching to the left bank of the Danube, there is a very steep climb up to the bridge (18%). The surfaces through the towns are often cobblestone. The ferries are accessible by handbike. However, the descent to the ferry is usually very steep on rough cobblestones. Two accompanying persons are usually necessary here.
