Beautiful local tour in Middle Baden. Today Uschi came along. That's why I included sights: The Aalschocker Heini, and of course Baden Baden. In early summer, the rose garden in Beutig is the event in Baden Baden. The view and the splendor of the roses is simply magnificent. The climb with the bike is definitely worth it.

The northern extension of the Badische Jakobsweg to Ettlingen is completed... From Ettlingen, a little over 13 km to Waldprechtsweier in the Karlsruhe district. The route passes through the center of the Baden city as a gateway to the Alb Valley/Northern Black Forest and then, without major elevation changes, follows the Saumweg (pilgrim's shell and blue lozenge of the Black Forest Association) along to Waldprechtsweier. Here, the sections to Gaggenau/Baden-Baden (Steinbach)/Sasbachwalden/Offenburg/Schutterwald and from there to Breisach connect. Dining options on this first section are only available at the destination Waldprechtsweier: e.g., at Campingpark Bergwiesen (Campingstüble) or Waldenfelsstüble at the Waldenfels Hall/Mini Golf and Leisure Facility (Talstrasse 41 b). Accommodation options: In Waldprechtsweier so far only Campingplatz Bergwiesen or in Malsch (bus connection from Waldprechtsweier) Hotel auf der Bühn or various private accommodations. After the holidays, I just had to get back on the bike today. Indoor cycling is driving me crazy. Especially since continuous rain is forecast for tomorrow again. The headwind on the way on the Rhine dam was already fierce. But that's why I have a motor with me. The dam renovation project is now finished up to about 500 m in Illingen. It looks good, it is also very rideable, very fine compacted gravel was used as the surface. The dam defense path is designed the same way. The joy that almost everything is finished is great, but internally I have the following questions: Why was no asphalt chosen as the final surface at all? In Alsace and the Palatinate, in the rest of the Pamina region, all bike paths are paved with asphalt, and it is durable. In Middle Baden, compacted gravel is used. When the first timber transports from the floodplain forest are done, the dam will then have driving lanes. We also have clever personnel in our administrations who think they know everything better. In the Ried, I wished Heini (the eelpout in Wintersdorf) all the best for the new year. The foresters there have completely shaved off all the pollarded willows. Yes, they need it, and they grow back quickly anyway. I was quickly in the spa town of B. Baden over Iffezheim. As often before, I refreshed myself at Leopoldsplatz. I like going to Peter's good bakery. I have never been disappointed there. I rode backwards again via Balg, and then over the Eberbach to Haueneberstein and on to Schloss Favorit. In Kuppenheim I was able to catch a few sun rays again and therefore decided to add a detour via Rotenfels Winkel to Malsch. The tailwind blew me to Ettlingenweier and Bruchhausen. Through the Hardtwald, the hometown was reached relatively quickly. In the end, I am glad that today I was able to really feel the wind blowing around my nose again. That was really necessary again.

On Monday, after our outing to Landeck Castle, the Kraichgau was once again a topic over the final beer. No long talk: JUST DO IT! So we wanted to implement it today right away. Many in our team have very positive memories of the land of 1000 hills. In the end, it was Martin and I who ventured into the inner Kraichgau. Bretten, as the Melanchthon city, has great significance for our religion and is a center of the hill country. For those interested, please refer to the following website for information. Our drive from Karlsruhe through the Hardtwald took us along Stutenseer Allee. Before that, we took a look inside the newly built Wildparkstadion. No, we did not drive on the lawn, but since the goals were wide open, we drove right up to the lush green. Very impressive, the steep high spectator stands and the neat architecture. After Blankenloch, we passed Stutensee Castle, then went over Staffort, Unter- and Obergrombach to Gondelsheim. Unfortunately, the bike path to Diedelsheim was just under renovation. That required a steep 14% detour. A stop and a few photos in the center of Bretten were a must. We took a break to refresh ourselves in a bakery cafe in Großvillars. The fist city of Knittlingen was the next destination. We were surprised by the many half-timbered buildings in need of renovation in the city center. Much has been nicely renovated, but the renovation backlog is obvious. Hilly and swift, we continued through Kleinvillars and the districts of Neulingen. Soon we reached the Pfinz, which led us to Kleinsteinbach. We decided to ascend over Stupferich to the golf course and through Batzenhof. Simply wonderful the landscape here. From Hohenwettersbach it went downhill towards Ettlingen. In Mörsch at the Naturfreundehaus during the evening drink, we reviewed the day. Not much could be improved. The route and landscape were top-notch, the effort sufficient. Without motor support, we could not have managed this pace. Especially the climbs demand assistance and are an ideal support over such distances. This way, you have much more concentration left for the landscape and that's very good. Sleeping tonight will be no problem. This day was really worth it. Thanks to Martin for the pulling power, inspiration, and motivation as well as the conversations about landscape, people, God & the world. Info: https://www.kraichgau-stromberg.de/

And the BEAUTIFUL IS SO CLOSE. This went through my mind as MARTIN and I were cycling along the Graf Rhena trail of the Alb towards Herrenalb. I had several variations of a route in mind. But the pleasant coolness and the dancing Alb (actually it was the dippers moving rhythmically) prompted us to continue the tour along the Alb. The Moosalb isn't going anywhere. It proved to be a good idea to start already at ten o'clock today. The forest was characterized by its pleasant temperatures. To the left the Alb, overhead the mixed forest, and the natural path under the tires, that really brought joy. At the old Baden-Württemberg state border, a small customs house still stands symbolically with both coats of arms on the side. Photos had to be taken. In Herrenalb, we allowed ourselves a small refreshment to use the proven bike path on the way back. A detour up to Schielberg and further into the Maisenbach valley had to be made. Via Pfaffenrot, down to the sports field through the lower Stegwiesen on the best asphalt, we reached the Albtal bike path again. It became noticeably warmer, so it was time to take a break. We did so right in the middle of Ettlingen at the Brauhaus Vogel. The round wasn't too long today, but it was really fantastic in terms of landscape. I have known the Graf Rhena trail forever; it was the day's influences and the light that made today special. We were both satisfied and happy about the experience.
