The 10 most beautiful winter hikes in the Eifel
Experience the sunny side of winter while hiking
Hiking in the Eifel has a very special charm in the cold season. Unspoilt nature, clear air and restful silence invite you to enjoy winter hikes with great views. The region's prepared winter trails offer something for every taste; there are longer and more demanding hikes or just short, easy circular tours.
On the eight-kilometre-long winter hike around the Sauermühle, you will hike for about two and a half hours through a beautiful snowy landscape. The start and finish of the circular tour is the Heilsteinhaus in Einruhr at the foot of the Obersee. The route leads through the large areas of forest and open countryside of the Dreiborn plateau in the Eifel National Park. At the southernmost point you will reach the old Sauermill in the valley of the Sauerbach. Then head back to Einruhr along the course of the stream.
Tip: When the snow is good, the mostly flat paths are suitable for pulling children on the sledge.
Eifel Dream Trail Mountain Heath Trail
The winter hiking tour Bergheidenweg through the wintry Heidbüchel leads over a length of just under 10 kilometres through the nature reserve. The route starts at the car park of the winter sports facility not far from Arft. You walk through white heaths and pine groves, along the Nette and the Selbach. The Selbach valley with its amazing cliffs is particularly impressive. A breathtaking view of the Eifel awaits you at the summit of the Heidbüchel. On the way, you can take a rest in a shelter and, weather permitting, hikes through the Dr. Heinrich Menke Park are possible. Ambitious winter hikers can combine the medium-difficulty Bergheidenweg dream trail with the Wacholderweg to form a circular trail of just under 18 kilometres.
