Via ferratas in Hinterstoder

A good amount of fitness is required already during the long approach; on the via ferrata, you also need to pull hard, before the alpine descent again demands endurance and concentration that test your limits.

The Stodertalklettersteig is a short, scenically stunning pleasure. Ideal for people trying via ferrata for the first time or preparing for the two big via ferratas in the area (Tassiloklettersteig on Schermberg and Bert-Rinesch Klettersteig on Großer Priel). For the "lazy walkers," the route can also be used for climbing down.

Route along the longest via ferrata in Austria on the Großer Priel

The tour starts right from the Prielschutzhaus base (without the ascent to the hut), beginning at the access to the trail, which leads directly to the summit cross. The descent follows the normal route via the Kühkar.

Approach to Hinterstoder parking lot at the sewage treatment plant on the right before the village entrance. Ascent via via ferrata approx. 1h, further to the summit 0.5h Descent via the normal path approx. 1h Don't forget your helmet!

Brilliant addition to the Bert Rinesch via ferrata, about 45 minutes from the Prielschutzhaus to the start. Scenically beautiful, long route with several challenging sections, cable bridges and cave passages. Only for experienced and physically strong climbers, the extension of the via ferrata makes the legendary overhanging ladders near the summit even tougher. Via ferrata length 2130 m, elevation difference 900 m, C/D. 2 emergency exits, after 460 and 900 m elevation, descent from the Priel summit via the Brotfallscharte to the Prielschutzhaus takes about 2 hours.

Prielschutzhaus -> Bert Rinesch Klettersteig (D) -> Summit/Gipfel -> Normalweg -> Prielschutzhaus -> Hinterstoder Parkplatz. I have completed the Bert Rinesch Klettersteig in 2 hours 40 minutes.
